1966 NFL Games of the Week: Both Cowboys-Cardinals Games on DVD!

Description: 1966 COWBOYS vs. CARDINALS (Week 6 and Week 13) Two vintage full color TV shows from 1966, the “NFL Game Of The Week”, are now available for nostalgic viewing for the first time ever on DVD! This entire two-game presentation contains a full 51 minutes of game action, including nice closeups and sideline shots. Included are both Dallas Cowboy vs St Louis Cardinal games from the 1966 season, the first on October 16 at brand new Busch Memorial Stadium, St. Louis, and the other later in the season on December 4 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. At the time of their first meeting of '66, both Tom Landry's Cowboys and new head coach Charley Winner's Cardinals are undefeated at 5-0, and as both clubs have demonstrated high-powered offenses so far in 1966, the experts predict a high-scoring game. However, both teams struggle to a 10-10 tie, with each club's kicker booting a field goal, but each also missing two, any of which could have won the game! It's also a good defensive game, although Dallas quarterback Don Meredith, who has not been intercepted all season, has three picked off in this game! Narrated by Lindsey Nelson, the "NFL Game-Of-The Week" gets underway as Dallas scores on it's opening drive when Danny Villanueva hits a 17-yd FG to make it 3-0 Cowboys. Late in the first half, Cardinal quarterback Charley Johnson drives St. Louis to the Dallas one, and a 1-yd TD toss to Bobby Joe Conrad gives the Big Red a 7-3 lead at halftime. The defensive standoff continues into the 4th quarter, when a personal foul penalty stalls the Cards. In Dallas' next possession, Meredith spirals a long pass to Pete Gent who is stopped on the Cardinal 4-yd line. Dan Reeves runs the ball in from the four and Dallas has the lead, 10-7. Late in the game St Louis gets a break when Bob Hayes fumbles a fair catch punt which is recovered by Dave O'Brien. The Cardinals move to the Dallas 20, are stopped on 3rd and 1, then Jim Bakken kicks a FG from there to tie the game at 10-10. The Cowboys then drive to the Cardinal 33, but Villanueva misses the FG attempt and St. Louis takes over with 31 seconds left. Charley Johnson passes the Cardinals up field and to within FG range at the Dallas 36 with 11 seconds to play. But Bakken's FG try is wide and the 10-10 tie leaves both teams frustrated but still undefeated! Throughout these two games, you'll see many players on both teams in action. For Dallas: Mel Renfro, Tony Liscio, Willie Townes, Ralph Neely, Warren Livingston, J.D. Smith, Don Perkins, Buddy Dial, Pettis Norman, Cornell Green, Lee Roy Jordan, Chuck Howley, Frank Clarke, Bob Lilly, Jethro Pugh, Mike Gaechter, Dave Edwards, George Andre, Jim Colvin and Walt Garrison. For the Cardinals, Larry Wilson, Jerry Stovall and Jimmy Burson (each with an interception), Chuck Walker, Larry Stallings, Willie Crenshaw, Roy Shivers, Billy Gambrell, rookie Johnny Roland, Prentice Gautt, Jackie Smith, Abe Woodson, Joe Robb, Dale Meinert, Pat Fischer, Dave Long, Don Brumm, Sonny Randle and Ernie McMillan are all shown. On December 4, the two teams meet again in the foggy Cotton Bowl. Both still have identical records (8-2-1) and are tied for the Eastern Conference lead. Because of an injury to Charley Johnson, backup quarterback Terry Nofsinger calls signals for the Cardinals in this game. The Cowboys get on the board first on a 45-yd TD run up the middle by Dan Reeves to make it 7-0 Cowboys. A 25-yd FG by Jim Bakken makes the score 7-3, then on third and one at the Dallas 1" line, the Cards push the ball over for a 10-7 lead by the end of the first quarter. This, however is the high point of the game for the Cardinals, as two Cowboy touchdowns have Dallas out in front 21-10 at halftime. (A 25-yd TD bomb to Bob Hayes accounts for one score, and Don Perkins' interception and TD runback accounts for the other.) Three critical Cardinal mistakes have each led to Dallas touchdowns in the first half. A 10-yd Villanueva FG puts Dallas in front 24-10 early in the third quarter, meanwhile two Nofsinger fumbles (one each in the last two quarters) help spell doom for the Cardinals. A Nofsinger to Billy Gambrell TD pass is the only bright spot in the second half for St. Louis. Usually reliable Jim Bakken misses three FG's in the game (a couple were very long attempts). Don Perkins' second TD of the day mounts the score to 31-17 by the end of the game, and Dallas is now alone in first place in the NFL East!
