Description: AD&D SSI Gateway to the Savage Frontier PC Game 1991 IBM Complete Original Recently, my brother passed and his wife asked me to go through his PC Gaming collection to see what he had and what could be sold to help her pay bills. My brother and I grew up in the 1980's and 1990's, when PC Gaming was in it's Golden Era, the time when games were being released each and every month, titles which are now considered to be classics: Wing Commander, Mechwarrior, Command & Conquer, Fallout, and so many more that it was like Christmas every time you'd go to the mall and visit the PC Gaming stores like WaldenSoftware and Electronic Boutique. Early on, one of the popular releases was from TSR, the creators of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, in partnership with Strategic Simulations, Inc (SSI). Together, they created a series of RPGs that turned Dungeons & Dragons into a computer game that everyone could enjoy. Starting with The Pool of Radiance and continuing on with many more, they established a series of games that would allow players to transfer their characters between games, so like the table-top D&D game, you could use characters again and again. Gateway to the Savage Frontier was the first of the last two games of the Golden Box series that began with Pool of Radiance, but by 1991, the engine used to support this style of game was in need of an update, so after the release of Gateway and it's partner game Treasures of the Savage Frontier, the series would move on. CONTENTS:As I checked the contents of this boxed set, I struggled to confirm that everything that originally came with the game were present. Remember, these games began with the Atari ST and Commodore 64 platforms, usually with 5 1/4" Floppy Disks, before updating to 3.5" HD Disks, allowing for more data on fewer disks. In addition, with more platforms becoming available for PC Games to be played on, it meant there were different configurations and different combinations of disks, so here it is...Original Golden Box Version: Gateway to the Savage Frontier: IBM/Compatibles - 3.5" HD 1.44 MB DiskConfirmed (1) 3.5" HD Disk - Green Label IBM(3) 3.5" HD Disks included for copying game saves (this was necessary for playing the game1989-1990 Strategic Simulations, Inc.
