Snowden Marshall. The author’s father served on the Staff of General Lee from about the time when General Lee took command of the Army of Northern Virginia throughout the war. His father was a Staff Officer who accompanied General Lee to meet General Grant at Appomattox and who had prepared battle reports and correspondence while on General Lee’s staff.
