Description: Being offered is an antique dovetailed 6-board pine red-painted blanket chest, c. 1825. This piece is descendant from my father's side of the family who settled in the Easton, PA area in the early 19th century. It made it's way to Washington, NJ (15 miles away) in the later 19th century, and Weehawken, NJ in the early 20th century. It was at my parents house in Farmingdale, NY since the mid-1950's. Condition: Excellent undisturbed patina. Most of these chests on the market look very clean because they have been sanded and refinished. This piece has not and looks great. It has the original lock & key which works. Hinges are original but have been moved because the old screw holes became loose. Lock is original and hand made (if you know what these look like.) Nails have irregular heads and are hand made. There are later reinforcing round head nails that have been added in areas. Interior looks great but the cubby door is a replacement. This is not uncommon as these doors were used to prop the lid open and were a high wear item (see photo of door and old witness mark.) Case is tight with all dovetails intact. Bottom board has split because of age but is stable. Feet are stable but show wear. Dimensions: L=37 3/4 inches, H=23 inches, W=19 inches. Ships FedEx Ground. Handling charges are for boxing and packing. eBay payments only. No returns.
