Description: Antique Majolica Pitcher Brown English Rose Pitcher Raised English Registry Mark For Your Majolica Art Pottery Collection-Pitcher7 Details Description: An antique majolica yellow and brown colored pitcher having a raised red rose decoration. The pitcher is rounded in the bottom with a tall neck ending at a plain scalloped rim and having a spout. The pitcher has an applied brown handle. The bottom of the pitcher is textured, yellow in color and has a black colored open scroll. The tall neck of the pitcher has a red colored rose flower having green leaves and a green stem. The bottom of the pitcher is colored in black and displays an English Pottery Registry Mark which is not very legible but we believe the piece was probably made sometime in the late 1800s to the mid 1900s. Please see page 66 in Mariann Katz-Marks book "The Collector's Encyclopedia of Majolica" published in 1994 by Collector Books of Paducah Kentucky, for a similar example in in cobalt blue. The pitcher is in very good condition with no obvious chips, breaks or repairs. It does have a tight hairline in the bottom which extends about 1 1/2" up the side wall. The piece also has extensive crazing to the glaze inside and out. Be that as it may, this is a nice antique majolica pitcher to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Uncertain but most likely late 1800s (late 19th century) or early to mid 1900s (early to mid 20th century). Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Size: Measures ~3 1/2" in diameter at the base, ~6" at its widest where the spout and handle are, and is ~6 1/2" high. The pitcher weighs over one pound. Maker: Unknown. Marks: Marked on the base with a difficult to discern English Registry Mark.
