Description: Lot of 6: THE SECOND WORLD WAR, Winston Churchill, 1948-1953, GOOD Vintage collectable Set of 6 volumes published from 1948-1953. Hardcover without DJs. This set is in good condition for it's age. Bindings are all intact - a few are loose or cracked. Covers are red cloth with black and gold printing. Spines are faded and some covers have small stains and scratches. Most corners are bumped, slightly bent or have slight wear to the fabric, but very little edge wear. Pages are clean but yellowed. Volume 2 has pencil re-sale marks on the inside cover page, otherwise there are no obvious marks, torn or folded pages. Some black and white illustrations and maps. 6" x 8.5" each volume. The Second World War is a history of the period from the end of the First World War to July of 1945. Churchill compiled the book, with a team of assistants, using both his own notes and privileged access to official documents while still serving as Leader of the Opposition; the text was vetted by the Cabinet Secretary. Churchill was largely fair in his treatment, but wrote the history from his personal point of view. He was unable to reveal all the facts, as some, such as the use of Ultra electronic intelligence, had to remain secret. From a historical point of view the book is therefore an incomplete memoir by a leading participant in the direction of the war. The book was a major commercial success in Britain and the United States. The first edition appeared in six volumes; later editions appeared in twelve and four volumes, and furthermore there is also a single-volume abridged version.
