Description: The beautiful 8.5" Haviland Limoges plate was hand painted at the Pickard Company in Chicago by one of the many artists there. Many were students at the Chicago Art Institute and their skill can be clearly seen in the work on this plate. The subject of currants is one often used by Pickard artists. The subtle blending of deep brick red and gold makes a pleasing composition. The border of the plate is made up of flourishes of gilt and adds a touch of elegance to the piece. It is signed by the artist, as can be seen in the photo although, other than the first letter R followed by a small e, I don't recognize the name. It is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or crazing. A kind ebay member sent this information to me about the artist "the artist's name on your plate is Maxwell Rean Klipphahn who worked for Pickard Studios off and on from 1903 - 1938. He is considered to be very skilled and imaginative, and was one of Pickard's most prolific artists." My thanks for this update! 100% of the proceeds of this sale will be donated to Samaritan's Purse.
