The book was written by Michael Costin and David Phipps with drawn illustrations by James A. Allington, and with several photographic picture illustrations. The book was published by Robert Bentley, Inc of Cambridge, MA, and first copyrighted by the authors in 1961. The second edition was copyrighted by the authors in 1965. This book is one of the 1975 printings of the second edition. Excerpts from the first and second paragraphs of the books introduction are – “The aim of this book is to provide information on the more advanced types of chassis and suspension in a form which will be understood by the large majority of motoring enthusiasts. Technical terms and formulae have been kept to a minimum, but those which are considered essential for the more serious student of design are contained in appendices at the end of the text… It cannot be too strongly emphasized that the basic requirements for success in this sphere, as in many others, are awareness of all the difficulties involved and the ability to integrate innumerable conflicting elements into a balanced design. Condition of the dust cover - The book comes with its original dust cover. The dust cover is tattered with chips at the extreme top and bottom of the spine edge and tears on other portions along with some minor scuffing. Most tears have been reinforced with clear tape on the inside of the dust cover to prevent further tearing. The dust cover is present but as just described has to be considered in is in poor condition (see Images). Condition of the book - The book is clean and complete. Both cover and pages are tightly bound. The black cover cloth with gold spine edge print is unfaded with no significant wear. The cover corners are still sharp and not noticeably bumped. The spine edge of the book is slightly rolled forward. A a previous owners last name is written in faded ink on the inside of the front cover. There are no other markings in the book. The pages are bright. There are no torn, missing, loose, creased or marked pages. The dust cover is as described above while the book with the exception of the dust cover is in overall very good condition. The book will be shipped in a hardcover box via media mail.
