This flag is one of my favorites. It was used that a North Carolina town’s Semi-Centennial in 1891. It is marked “Shelby Semi-Centennial and Old Soldiers Reunion held at Shelby N.C. August 27, 28 ’91. Below is marked Jean Moore a little girl 5 years old. I later found Jean Moore as having lived in the little town all her life and her passing away in the 1960s. The flag is 12” X 16” and is in faded and stained condition but it does have personality. I bought it from an antique dealer on Ebay in 1998. I later found that Jean Moore was born Patience Jean Moore and that she born in 1886 and died in 1963. She is buried at the Sunset Cemetery in Shelby along with most of the rest of her family.
