His grandmother (Ester) spent much of her time keeping the family together and Bill company during his long hard hours. They used a casket as a playpen for LillyVee (Rick's mother) as there was often sawdust, wood and fabric scraps littering the floor. Bill's sister died in that epidemic and he made the casket that she was laid to rest in.
