Description: All of our Meteorites are 100% Genuine Specimens & comes with a Certificate of Authenticity Specimen: Tatahouine Diogenite Type: Space Rock Scale cube=1cm: Full sizing please see photo Tatahouine is classified as a Diogenite achondrite. This rare meteorite felln on June 27th, 1931, NE of the village of Foum Tatahouine, Tunisia. The stone shattered into thousands of small fragments, most no larger than a gram: larger fragments are rare. The original |mass broke up near the earth’s surface: as a result, fusion crust is virtually absent, making this a difficult meteorite to recognise. If it had not been witnessed, it probably would never have been found. About 12kg were originally recovered, most of which was sent to Dr. Alain Carion at the Museum National D’Histoire Naturelle in Paris. In 1994 Carion recovered a number of additional specimens raising the total known mass to about 13.5kg. Tabahouine has a cumulate texture with exceptionally large crystals, many reaching 2cm long. ACTUAL AS SEEN: The image shows the EXACT specimen you will receive. The specimen has been carefully hand selected and photographed. Measurements are as accurate as possible, though be aware measuring precise dimensions can be difficult from irregular shaped items. Once this specimen is sold, we will update this listing with new similar selected item, with a new photo and dimensions.
