Description: They Were Still Dancing by Evelyn Waugh (1931, Hardcover). This is a very rare book. The book was originally printed in England in 1931 as Remote People, and it tells the story of the author's travel to Ethiopia to observe the coronation of Emperor Haile Selassie. The first American printing of this book, it was first published in 1931 by Jonathan Cape & Harrison Smith in New York, before the author and the publishers got into a royalty dispute, leading to the book being reprinted in 1932 by Farrar and Rinehart. It is estimated that there are fewer than 150 copies of this original 1931 edition still in existence, and many of them are in much worse condition than the copy being sold by us. The scarcity of this book cannot be understated - this is truly an incredibly rare find! Exceptional condition considering the age of the book. Incredibly scarce dust jacket included; dust jacket has some wear and bumping along the corners and edges, along with some general very light dirt and debris present throughout. Dust jacket has been nicely installed in a clear plastic protective sleeve. The book will be shipped with this installed, please let us know if you would like it removed. The book itself is in amazing condition with only slight bumping present on the corners and edges of the front and rear covers. Binding tight and book is easily readable. Pages clear and free of debris and wear - no markings. Text block has some dirt and debris present, but nothing major. Previous owner's name stamped in ink on fist blank page and last blank page, these are the only markings on the entire book. Deckled edges present on edges of book. The book has some general dust, debris, and markings present all over, but there really isn't any major wear considering its age. A fantastic condition copy of a very rare book! Be sure to read the condition description above as we accurately describe the finer points of this book. The book will be securely and safely shipped. Reasonable offers will be accepted.
