Description: Attention all Marines and Marine Corps patch enthusiasts! Check out this fine example of a unit logo patch for the Third Battalion, Fifth Marines. These can't be found just anywhere! Not, of course, allowed on the uniform, but worn on all manner of off-duty civilian caps and clothing as novelty items. Please see also my other 3/5 patch listings with alternate colors and construction when you Visit my eBay Store! 3d Bn, 5th Marines has served in practically every major US conflict since its heroic debut with the 4th Marine Brigade in WWI ! Their battle streamers also encompass WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and more recently Desert Storm where they served with 5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade of Marine Forces Afloat. After the ground offensive began, they landed in Saudi to reinforce I MEF. Note the three fleur de lis on the shield symbolizing the unit’s participation in the heroic battle of Belleau Wood, France in WWI. Note also the rice paddy, symbolic the unit’s Vietnam service. In 2005 they readopted their Korean War callsign DARKHORSE in tribute to their recently-deceased commanding officer from that era. Unit motto: GET SOME Recent Decades: Of course, 3/5 was called upon once again in 2003 for Operation Iraqi Freedom! They were one of the first units into Iraq in the initial invasion, and took the fight all the way to Baghdad! In late 2004, 3/5 deployed once again to Iraq – just in time for the heated battle of Fallujah! The heroism and valor of this house-to-house fighting has been well-chronicled in several TV documentaries. The unit returned to the US in late March 2005. (Thanks, everyone, for your input!)
