Description: VTG FLORENTINE-STYLE JEWELRY BOX JAPAN Bearing a classic painting called “The Letter” this vintage box is gilded in bright gold paint, framing green panels aged for an antique look. Lid is highly decorated. The central painting is glued on. Framing it is gold paint with pin-point indentations all around. Flanking the picture are green panels with gold scroll-type embellishments. The sides are also gold framing the green, except the back panel which is painted gold only. Inside, red felt lines the five compartments for jewelry or trinkets. One section is large, comprising about half the box, the other four smaller compartments comprise the other half. The inside lid is gleaming gold, as is the trim around the inside. Underneath, the green pads to protect furniture are intact. SIZE: Approximately 8” wide x 5.75” deep by 2.5” high. MARKS: Black sticker with gold lettering, “MADE IN JAPAN.” CONDITION: Good vintage condition. No flaws or peeling in the paint or in the central design on the lid. No scratches. There is a streak of gold paint on the box bottom in the left corner, which doesn’t show when the box stands upright. Please see photos. They serve as part of the description.
